Seasons of Life by Audrey Cofield

A Sense of Humor

If we could master a sense of humor,
Laugh spontaneously at each little thing,
Not get enmeshed in a bundle of nerves
      Taut as a fiddle string-

Life for all would be more enticing,
For wits, should be tempered like steel,
Then, feelings hurt in a battle of words
Would be given a chance to heal.

Few of us ever achieve it,
Though it was a gift bestowed on men,
For, no other animal put on earth
Can laugh with a chuckle and grin.
